Djibouti is situated on the east coast of Africa
along the Bab al-Mandab, the strait that links the Red Sea with the Gulf
of Aden. It is bordered by Somalia
on the south-east, by Eritrea to the north, Ethiopia north, west, and
south, and by the Bab al-Mandab, Gulf of Tadjoura, and Gulf of Aden
on the east. Djibouti territory is approximately 23,000 sq km and has a
total boundary length of 830 km, which includes a
coastline of 314 km.

Djibouti is strategically located near some of the worlds busiest
shipping lanes, controlling access to the Red Sea and Indian Ocean.
